Primary City/State:Phoenix, ArizonaDepartment Name: Cytogenetic Testing-Ref LabWork Shift: DayJob Category:LabPOSITION SUMMARYPerforms genetic testing in accordance with CAP (College of America Pathologists) standards in an accurate and timely manner.This high complexity testing may include:Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization (FISH)Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)Cytogenetic chromosome analysisNext Generation Sequencing (NGS)Pharmacogenomics (PGx)Chromosomal Microarray (CMA)Results of these tests, which may have significant clinical impact, are obtained through manual and automated processes. Technologists will operate a range of software and instrumentation requiring manual dexterity, a keen eye for detail and the ability to multitask. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. CORE FUNCTIONS1. Follows established laboratory procedures for performing genetic tests and analysis with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. Responsible for complex test results requiring expertise, thoroughness, and attention to detail. Knowledgably uses equipment, instruments, and software. 2. Documents processes, quality control and equipment maintenance/functions clearly. Ensures patient identity is correct and test information is accurate. Identifies, documents, and communicates problems as appropriate. Proactively completes mandatory training, competency assessments and continuing education assignments.3. Communicates courteously, accurately, and effectively with internal and external clients. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service in providing timely laboratory information. 4. Uses time effectively by consistently meeting productivity goals, beginning work promptly, minimizing wasted time and observing department rules regarding breaks, lunch periods and attendance. Identifies opportunities for improvements in quality, supply cost savings and process efficiency. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must qualify as testing personnel performing high complexity testing as define by CLIA. 4-year bachelor's degree. Ability to use good judgment.Knowledge of laboratory practices. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science/medical technology.ASCP certification in Cytogenetics, Molecular Biology, or Medical Technology.One or more years of experience as genetics technologist.
